Nestled between the coastal range and the sea, Arroyo Grande has all the charm of a small town, with many of the amenities that make a large metropolitan area appealing. Conveniently located half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, Arroyo Grande offers a mild climate year-round and easy access to many artistic and recreational activities.
The history of the valley˙s thriving agricultural life can be experienced first hand with a drive through the countryside. You˙ll see farms, vineyards and ranches, some still run by families who have been on the land for three and four generations.
Because of the mild climate and rich soil, the Arroyo Grande Valley has a long history as one of California˙s most productive agricultural regions. In the early 1900s, the Valley produced bumper crops of cabbages, carrots, beans, peas, pumpkins and onions. Vegetables are still the foundation of a farm economy, but award-winning, local wines are attracting attention from around the world.
The Village of Arroyo Grande
It's a place right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. You start by wandering through ivy-covered alleyways, visiting unique shops and stopping for ice cream. Later, you dine with friends in a cozy restaurant -- with a bottle of local wine, of course! The village green is next to a meandering creek with picnic tables, benches and a gazebo nearby. Take a moment to sit on the grass and soak up a little sun. Watch for the colorful roosters that strut about calling out the hour...although time doesn't really matter, and no one's in much of a hurry to move on. Musicians regularly perform on the Rotary bandstand while their audience of locals and visitors sing along and watch the kids dance and play. The Village of Arroyo Grande is truly a magical place that retains the feel of a bygone era. If you're ready to slow down for a few hours, maybe go on a treasure hunt for antiques or an art piece, come to the Village.
